Meet Our Zuri Bloom

zu3

I finally am getting a chance to sit down and share our birth story with you guys! This past month has been an absolute whirlwind, but in the best way possible. We are so blessed to have this girl in our lives, and we have been falling more in love with her with each passing week. Being this girl’s mom has been the most amazing feeling in the entire world. Everyone kept telling me that there is nothing like being a mom and now I know exactly what they meant. And to think an entire month has passed since that night when she arrived…

I was scheduled to be induced on Friday, November 13th which was 1 week past my due date. On Thursday, November 12th in the middle of the night I woke up with contractions. At first I didn’t know if they were real or not – just felt like bad period cramps. I had an app on my phone to track them to see how long they were lasting and how far apart they were, and after a few hours of having them I realized that I was likely going into labour. We didn’t rush to the hospital like I always pictured us doing though. That day I just took it easy at home and had contractions off and on all day. When Wade got home from work around supper time, they started getting a lot stronger and more painful. And that is when we decided to go into the hospital just to see if I was progressed at all.

The minute we opened the door to the maternity ward at the hospital, my doctor just happened to be standing right there, almost like he was waiting for us – so that was amazing timing! As soon as we went into the room to be examined, it all just hit me. Leading up to this point (during the entire pregnancy) I was actually strangely calm about the whole labour and delivery process. But as soon as I got on the bed I immediately started crying and shaking so bad! All of my nerves came out at once! And it turns out I was in labour – because I was already 3.5 cm dilated!

That’s when things really started to progress. My doctor broke my waters, and within an hour I went from 3.5 to 7 cm dilated! I also received an epidural which was seriously the best thing in the entire world! I remember thinking “wow, this baby may come tonight”. Well, I remained at a 7 for many hours afterwards lol. I slowly progressed throughout the entire night and before I knew it we were well into the morning. I got to 10 cm around 3:30 AM and pushed until 4:12 AM when she was born!

Zuri Bloom Hamilton was born 7 pounds 11 ounces and 20 and a half inches long. She came out super bright, looking right at us and not even crying. My only request going into the labour was that they place her right on me when she was born. That was the single most amazing moment of my entire life (tearing up just thinking about it as I type this). I got to hold her for so long and completely soak in every moment. They eventually took her to get cleaned up and weighed but then I was able to do skin on skin with her and feed her for the first time. It may have been the middle of the night, but we were on a high – couldn’t believe how beautiful she was and that she was ours! I would do it all again in a heart beat because we are madly in love with her. We’re blessed – God is so good! 🙂
